Yorkshire Day

August 1, 2019

Our event this year will be to Temple Newsam near Leeds. This is a Tudor-Jacobean country mansion built in 1518 with grounds landscaped by Capability Brown.  The house was once birthplace to Lord darnley, notorious husband of Mary Queen of Scots. The Rose and Walled Gardens are home to five of the eleven National Collections held by Leeds City Council.

The day will be planned for you to wander round the beautiful house and gardens, enjoy lunch in the marquee which offers plenty of natural light with outside space and conservatory. Following lunch, you will be entertained by guest speaker, Eric Scaife of the Yorkshire Dialect Society. His humorous talk will encompass Yorkshire dialect, tradition, folklore and history.
