Autumn Meeting

October 29, 2014

We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day for our Autumn Meeting held at Manor CE Academy on Wednesday, 29th October. With over 300 members in attendance, our morning speaker was Alan Mason who talked about his life as a gardener from his student days at Askham Bryan College to becoming the youngest head gardener at Bramham Park and aslo Garden Manager for the Queen's cousin at Harewood House. HIs talk was accompanied by a presentation of slides all wrapped in his inordinate sense of humour.

After a short lunch break, our Magazine Editor Barbara Green, presented the magazine awards followed by our afternoon speaker (for whom we didn't need the sunshine outside) because she was herself, Miss Liquid Sunshine, Jean Martyn.  She will be known to many when she shot to fame in 2011 on Britain's Got Talent and has since gone on to perform at many prestigious concerts and in doing so has raised over £50,000 for various charitities.  She bedazzled our audience with her unique style of musical fun and talent.

Here is one of the many comments we have received from our members who enjoyed the day.

I must mention that we all thought that the Autumn Meeting was wonderful.  Both Alan Mason and Jean Martyn were exceptional speakers.  We enjoyed meeting the other branches and felt proud to be part of such a large organisation.  Thank you very much for a wonderful day, and I know from experience that a lot of background hard work goes into this kind of event. We very much appreciated it.
